Wood-pellet stoves have an average efficiency rating of 80- to 85%. For those of you who do not know, this is very high! The pellets are burned completely giving off very little smoke, therefore, a large chimney is not necessary.  If your home does not have a chimney, that is not a problem either. Pellet stoves only need a small pipe leading outside. Because pellet stoves are so efficient, they hardly produce any waste. A 40-pound bag of pellets produces less than a cup of ashes.
